Jhpiego

Jhpiego is an international non-profit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. Founded in 1973 as the Johns Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynecology and Obstetrics, it works to improve access to health care in low- and middle-income countries, with a focus on maternal and newborn health, family planning, HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, cervical cancer and health workforce training. Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, it works in more than 30 countries, most of them in Africa.

Jhpiego advertises jobs on its careers site (career.jhpiego.org), which also hosts a Global Consultant Registry for short- and long-term assignments and an internship programme. Most staff are hired locally by country offices, where benefits vary by country of hire, while technical and support roles sit in Baltimore and Washington, DC. Much of its funding comes from grants, so many posts are tied to specific projects.

Jhpiego staff design and deliver health programmes with ministries of health: training midwives, nurses and doctors, improving the quality of clinical care, and strengthening health systems in areas such as maternal and newborn health, HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. Roles include clinical and technical advisers, programme managers, monitoring and evaluation specialists, and finance and operations staff. Most are based in country offices, mainly in Africa and Asia.
