African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat (AfCFTA)

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat is the African Union body that administers and supports the implementation of the AfCFTA Agreement, which aims to create a single continental market for goods and services. The agreement was signed in Kigali in March 2018 and entered into force in May 2019, and trading under it began in January 2021. The Secretariat’s building in Accra, Ghana, was commissioned in August 2020. By May 2026, 54 countries had signed the agreement and 49 had ratified it.

Staff vacancies are published on the African Union recruitment portal, jobs.au.int. They are open to citizens of AU member states, and most are fixed-term appointments in Accra. Consultancies and procurement notices are posted on the careers pages of au-afcfta.org.

Staff support negotiations and implementation in trade in goods and services, rules of origin, customs, investment, digital trade, competition policy, dispute settlement and private sector engagement, along with legal, finance, human resources and administrative functions. Positions are based at the Secretariat in Accra, Ghana, and involve close work with State Parties, Regional Economic Communities and the private sector across the continent.
