But what growth rates are feasible? What growth path might a developing country follow under current policies and trends? How can countries accelerate growth, and what are the implications for poverty? The Long-Term Growth Model (LTGM) and its extensions are a suite of Excel-based tools and papers designed to answer these questions, building on the Solow–Swan growth model. The models emphasize simplicity, transparency, and ease of use. Their limited data requirements allow them to be applied in almost all countries. The tools, papers, and other materials are publicly available on the LTGM website: https://www.worldbank.org/LTGM Unit Description The Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) is the World Bank’s central reservoir of fresh insights into the most pressing challenges of development. It is led by the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank Group, who advises the President and senior managers, serves as the community leader for the WBG’s economists, and helps to keep the institution in the forefront of thinking about development policy. DEC constitutes one of the world’s largest teams of economists focused on policy solutions for developing economies. Duties and accountabilities: The LTGM team seeks an ET Consultant to help develop new LTGM extensions, update existing extensions, and apply the LTGM in country engagements. Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Harmonize the LTGM human capital extension with the HCI+. Specifically, this will involve adding tertiary education and on-the-job experience to the LTGM-HC V1 toolkit to produce LTGM-HC V2. Additional data will need to be collected, and the schooling definitions will need to be revised. The new spreadsheet-based LTGM-HC V2 will require documentation and dissemination to relevant teams in the People and Prosperity verticals. This activity will be coordinated with the Offices of the Chief Economists for People and Prosperity. Apply the LTGM at the country level in coordination with country economists and government counterparts, including in the Philippines and possibly Afghanistan, as well as elsewhere. This work will also involve updating the LTGM-TFP extension so that it can be used in country applications. Help develop a multisector variant of the LTGM in coordination with other LTGM team members, key academics, and the IMF, and pilot the multisector version in several countries. Analyze how ageing can affect economic growth, identify potential policy responses, and assess both using the LTGM.
