Job Description

Mission and objectives

Context

Following the recent earthquakes in Venezuela, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been supporting national response and recovery efforts through technical assistance, damage assessments, coordination with national institutions and international partners, and strategic communications to highlight recovery progress. In this context, systematically monitoring international media coverage of UNDP's response is essential to better understand institutional visibility, identify emerging narratives, support communications analysis, and inform strategic decision-making by the Communications Team. Online Volunteers will contribute to the development of a consolidated database of English-language international media coverage related to UNDP's response to the earthquakes in Venezuela. This database will serve as an important resource for communications analysis, reporting, and institutional knowledge management. As the final deliverable, volunteers will contribute to a consolidated and organized database of international media publications, including metadata defined by the Communications Team (publication date, media outlet, link, summary, topic, and other relevant fields). Their contributions will be integrated with those of other volunteers to create a comprehensive monitoring system.

Task Description

Under the supervision of the Communications Unit of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Venezuela, Online Volunteers will support the monitoring and systematization of international media coverage in English related to UNDP's response to the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. Main tasks include: • Monitor international English-language media on a daily basis to identify news articles, feature stories, interviews, opinion pieces, and other content related to UNDP and its response to the emergency. • Identify mentions of UNDP and post-earthquake response and recovery efforts in Venezuela. • Register each publication in a monitoring matrix provided by the Communications Team, including information such as publication date, media outlet, link, headline, brief summary, and content classification. • Verify the quality and consistency of the information collected. • Promptly report high-impact publications or content requiring the immediate attention of the Communications Team. The assignment will be carried out collaboratively with other Online Volunteers responsible for monitoring social media and Spanish-language media.
