UN Women Kenya’s Strategic Note (SN) 2023-2026 envisions a state where gender relations empower women and men to make informed decisions, have equal access to and use of quality services, and control resources and assets in a secure, accountable, and inclusive nation. The Strategic Note has prioritized the following four impact areas: 1) Women leadership in decision making, 2) Women’s Economic Empowerment, 3) Ending Violence against Women and Girls and 4) and Women, Peace, and Security. The SN’s priorities are fully aligned to national priorities, the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and the Global UN Women Strategic Plan (SP).
The Women, Peace and Security (WPS), Humanitarian and Disaster Risk Reduction(DRR) programme in Kenya Country Office is conceived and anchored within the framework of Kenya National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325, the commitments of the World Humanitarian Summit, Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).The programme embodies the “Leave No One Behind” principle, by ensuring the inclusion of women, youth and other marginalized groups in peace, security and humanitarian initiatives. The Programme focuses on two key areas; a) Development and implementation of gender responsive polices and frameworks on peace and security and DRR; and b) Women and girls have access to DRR and humanitarian services.
The consultant will report to Deputy Country Representative, and will be supported by Program Associate, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.
The National Consultant will work closely with the WPS, Humanitarian Action (HA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) team to support implementation of key activities that relate to the WPS & HA at the country office while collaborating with both UN Women Regional and Global Offices.
Description of Responsibilities /Scope of Work
Design and develop programme strategies in Women Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action
Manage the implementation and management of the WPSHA programme in line with the country Strategic Note
Manage technical assistance and capacity development to project/programme partners
Manage the monitoring and reporting of the programme project
Manage the people and financial resources of the WPSHA programme
Build partnerships and support in developing resource mobilization strategies
Contribute to inter-agency coordination on WPSHA to achieve coherence and alignment of UN Women programmes with other partners in the ESA region
Manage advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts
Provide capacity building and coordination support to Country Office on WPSHA
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
