Job Description

Mission and objectives

With the strong presence on the ground and partnerships with local communities and organizations across multiple sectors, UNICEF aims to reach more children and families. Upholding the humanitarian principles, UNICEF supports integrated, multi-sectoral programming and continues to improve sustained, equitable and safe access to critical basic services in areas where the needs are the highest. UNICEF, in coordination with partners, aims to ensure accountability to affected populations with integration of gender, child safeguarding as well as prevention from sexual exploitation and abuse into its programmes. UNICEF aims to reach children no matter where they are or live.

Context

UNICEF works in Syria to support the survival, protection, development and participation of children, particularly those affected by conflict, displacement and economic hardship. Through its Country Programme and humanitarian response, UNICEF delivers life-saving and life-sustaining services in key sectors including health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, child protection and social protection. Given the scale of the needs and the reliance on donor funding, effective communication and donor visibility are essential to demonstrate results, strengthen accountability and highlight the impact of UNICEF-supported programmes for children and communities across Syria. This UN Volunteer assignment will support the Communication and Advocacy Section of UNICEF Syria in documenting programme results, strengthening donor visibility and producing compelling communication products that showcase UNICEF’s work and the impact of donor contributions. The assignment will contribute to the development of human interest stories, digital and social media content, visibility materials and other communication outputs aligned with UNICEF guidelines and donor visibility requirements. The UN Volunteer will work closely with programme sections, field offices and partners to collect information and communication assets from the field, support the production of multimedia content and help ensure that UNICEF-supported activities and donor contributions are appropriately documented and communicated. Through this assignment, the UN Volunteer will contribute to strengthening UNICEF’s visibility, transparency and public engagement, while supporting advocacy efforts that promote the rights and well-being of children in Syria. In addition to duty station specific vaccine requirements, appointments are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the appointment. It does not apply to UN Volunteers who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their contracts. UNICEF offers reasonable accommodation for UN Volunteers with disabilities. This may include, for example, accessible software, travel assistance for missions or personal attendants. We encourage you to disclose your disability during your application in case you need reasonable accommodation during the recruitment process and afterwards in your assignment.
