Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is located in the Strategic Planning and Inter-Agency Affairs Unit of UNODC. Under the supervision of the Officer in Charge of the Strategic Planning and Inter-Agency Affairs Unit, and in collaboration and coordination with the other team members of the Unit, the intern will undertake the following tasks: • Contribute to the drafting and preparation of UN and UNODC publications, briefing notes, background notes, reports, various internal documents, presentations, correspondences with Member State governments, talking points and speeches; • Maintain a repository of information, including background materials and preparatory logistical material related to the above, and manage this information to ensure its accuracy, accessibility and utility. • Support the Unit with research and coordination in various cross-cutting areas pertaining to consolidating UNODC’s contributions to Secretary-General’s reports, reports to the Human Rights Council and other system-wide requests for information, e.g. related to UN strategies, implementation of resolutions and action plans or joint initiatives; • Effectively support the on-going work of the Unit on responding to various requests from other UN entities, Office of the Executive Director or Director of Policy Analysis and Public Affairs ensuring coordination and consultation with all relevant parts of the Office; • Support the design and layout of infographics, web pages and presentations on various topics related to the work of the Unit, including SharePoint pages, iSeek and website pages; and • Assist with the technical / ICT arrangements for webinars or hybrid events. The Intern will further support the work of the Unit by performing other tasks, as necessary. The intern is UNPAID.
Qualifications/special skills
The basic education required is HS Diploma. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Please elaborate. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Teams. Knowledge of Canva, Adobe or other design tools is an asset. Please describe your competency using these software applications. It is desirable to have candidates who have knowledge of the core mandate areas of UNODC’s work. Please elaborate on any knowledge of, or work experience in, these areas.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
