Duties and Responsibilities
The Intern will support the technical and analytical work of the United Nations Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence (UN-GGCE), contributing to projects aligned with the Centre’s Framework Plan and the Joint Development plan on Global Geodesy. Under the supervision of the Head of Office or a designated technical officer, the Intern will: • Assist in the preparation of technical and policy-oriented draft documents, including reports, background papers, presentations, and inputs for international, intergovernmental, and expert group meetings. • Conduct research on geodesy-related technologies, methodologies, and systems, including GNSS, satellite-based positioning, Earth observation, GIS, remote sensing, and system integration. • Support analysis related to the global geodesy supply chain, including ground observatories, data centers, and analysis centers, and their integration into global frameworks. • Assist in the organization of technical meetings, seminars, working groups, and capacity-building activities related to geodesy and geospatial data sharing. • Support the implementation of projects aimed at strengthening global geodesy through improved coordination, collaboration, and capacity development among Member States and geodetic organizations. • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure that technical content is accurate, coherent, and aligned with UN-GGCE objectives. • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
The field of study must be in geodesy, geospatial sciences/engineering, geomatics, Earth observation, geography, environmental sciences, geophysics, or a closely related discipline. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent). In geodesy, geospatial sciences/engineering, geomatics, Earth observation, geography, environmental sciences, geophysics, or a closely related field is desirable.
