JOB CONTEXT:
Reporting to the Area Manager, the Rehabilitation Project Manager contributes to the implementation of the mandate and the 10-year strategy of Humanity & Inclusion in the country where s/he is based. S/he is responsible for implementing his/her project. S/he ensures optimal quality and the impact of the project implemented by means of a delegation system with appropriate oversight mechanisms. With all the other HI managers, the project manager shares responsibility for the sound management and effective functioning of the global organization.

  • Type of activities: Physical rehabilitation
  • Volume of budget & number of staff: 2 TOs and physiotherapists, budget +/- 400K€
  • Donors, main external partners: ECHO
  • Main mission challenges (renewal of funding, new partnerships, ROOTS deployment, regionalization:
    • Manage the project;Continue the development of this component in Darfur;
    • Contribute to the fundraising effort;
    • Opening potential new project;
    • Recruit and support the local team.

YOUR MISSION:

Terms of reference for 2 months:

1. Background and Rationale

  • In a context of protracted crisis, access to assistive devices is limited. Developing locally made, robust, and low-cost solutions is essential to meet the needs of injured persons and people with disabilities.

2. Overall Objective

  • Strengthen local capacities for the design, production, and maintenance of appropriate and accessible assistive devices.

3. Specific Objectives

  • Train artisans and technicians in fabrication techniques (wood, metal, assembly).
  • Introduce quality, safety, and ergonomic standards.
  • Develop reproducible models of assistive devices (crutches, tricycles, etc.).
  • Establish simple maintenance and repair procedures.

4. Expected Results

  • Local staff trained and operational.
  • Functional local production of assistive devices.
  • Availability of practical guides and technical sheets.
  • Improved quality and durability of produced devices.

5. Key Activities

  • Conduct an initial assessment of local capacities and available resources.
  • Design and deliver hands-on training sessions.
  • Co-design and adapt prototypes to the local context.
  • Provide on-the-job technical support and mentoring.
  • Set up basic quality control procedures.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION:
The situation in Tawilah is relatively calm. There is no conflict at present. The town is relatively isolated; it takes two days by car to reach the Sudanese town near the border with Chad. There are risks of waterborne diseases. The entire security package is up to date and there is a HAS (Security) and a liaison officer present on the base. The route to reach the base goes via: N'djamena (international flight) then NDJ to Adré via UNHAS flights and finally by car to the Geneina’s base (west Darfur). Then, 2 days by road to reach Tawilah. In terms of conditions, the teams are housed in a collective guesthouse, in the same building as our offices.

Requirements

YOUR PROFILE:

  • You have a relevant degree in the field of physical rehabilitation with at least 4 years in the field of physical rehabilitation and 2 years of experience in capacity building, technical supervision.
  • Experience in an early rehabilitation project or a rehabilitation project linked to emergencies, chronic crises.
  • Proven training and local capacity-building experience.
  • Ability to deal with rapidly changing context and plan.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work in remote, insecure areas.

  • R&R: 5 days every 8 weeks => + possible transport/package support;
  • Position: Unaccompanied;
  • Housing: Collective taken in charge by HI;
