Mission and objectives
The UNDP Sustainable Energy Hub is a network of partners that work alongside countries to transform energy systems though an integrated agenda focused on the policy, technology and financial shifts that shape sustainable economic development. We help countries build net-zero, people-centered societies driven by a just, sustainable energy transition. Our core principle is to promote an integrated agenda that supports energy for development, including by mobilizing partners to enable 500 million additional people to have access to sustainable, reliable, affordable energy by 2025, leaving no-one behind. The global transformation of energy systems has already started, but is being altered by the current geopolitical context. However, this transformation must be accelerated, and it must be done in a way that advances the Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Energy Hub is UNDP’s answer to these challenges. To drive the systems-level change needed, the Sustainable Energy Hub aims to bring about a completely new way of thinking, doing business, connecting people and knowledge. UNDP’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan has put sustainable energy at the heart of a joint corporate mission, and UN-Energy has pledged to reaching key energy milestones by 2025. UNDP will focus efforts on mobilizing partners and catalzing action to provide access to sustainable, affordable, and reliable energy – both electricity and clean cooking – to 500 million people by 2025, focusing on the world’s poorest communities. UNDP will not do this alone – our role here is to mobilize strong, meaningful, impactful partnerships to deliver action on the ground. We aim to bring about a new way of thinking about energy and advocate for an integrated, inclusive approach, where all stakeholders participate meaningfully in its design.Context
Task Description
Each of the 9 volunteers will take lead on one of the 5 UNDP regions, as well as take lead on a few specific thematics for sourcing photos. Each volunteer will be responsible for sourcing, cataloguing, and tagging photos from their region and thematics. The assignment will be structured in three phases: - In Phase 1, volunteers will conduct a quality assurance review of the existing photo bank hosted on Piwigo. This includes verifying and correcting metadata such as author credits, licensing information, descriptions, and tags — particularly for images migrated from the previous platform (Flickr). Volunteers will ensure that all metadata is accurate, consistent, and formatted according to the taxonomy provided by the SEH team. - In Phase 2, volunteers will apply the curated photos directly to the Sustainable Energy Academy (SEA) slides in Figma. This includes replacing existing images, ensuring that each image's Piwigo ID is used as the corresponding Figma layer name to maintain a clear link between the visual assets and the metadata catalogue, and checking that all images display correctly without distortion. - In Phase 3, volunteers will source and upload additional high-quality stock images to expand the photo bank. Each volunteer will be responsible for finding, uploading, and tagging a minimum of 200 images from their assigned region and thematics. All newly sourced images must be documented in a shared metadata tracking sheet. Responsibilities: - Review and correct metadata for existing images in Piwigo, ensuring accurate tags, author credits, licenses, and descriptions across all records - Apply curated photos to designated Figma slides for the Sustainable Energy Academy, using Piwigo image IDs as Figma layer names - Source, upload, and tag additional high-quality images to support the UNDP Sustainable Energy Academy photo bank - Maintain consistent formatting and organization across all metadata using the taxonomy provided by the SEH team - Document all newly sourced images in a shared metadata tracking sheet Benefits for Volunteers: Volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact visual resource for UNDP's Sustainable Energy Hub and support photo selection for the Sustainable Energy Academy. Weekly meetings and collaboration with professionals from UNDP and the energy sector will offer valuable insights into visual communication and sustainable development.Competencies and values
