Duties and Responsibilities
The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations and the principal forum for cooperation between postal sector stakeholders, establishes the rules for international mail exchanges. It has 191 member countries and has its headquarters in Berne, Switzerland. Its primary objective is to encourage the provision of quality postal services that are accessible to all, and its core mission is to develop social, cultural and commercial communication between peoples. The UPU comprises several bodies, including the Postal Operations Council (POC), made up of represent¬atives from 41 member countries, which considers operational and technical matters of interest to the postal service. It promotes the introduction of new postal products and establishes standards for the various tech¬nological, operational or other processes as well as procedures for the implementation thereof. The UPU is seeking an intern, under the supervision of the Lead Technical Account Manager (TAM), Mail Products and Services, Postal Technology Centre Directorate (DCPT), to assist the Lead TAM and other TAMs. TAMs provide the designated operators (DOs) of UPU member countries with information on UPU products and services, assist DOs in implementing UPU software applications, and coordinate remote and on-site missions for upgrades and training. The trainee will be required to: – Assist TAMs in communications with DOs (e-mail, conference calls, on-site meetings, etc.); – Provide DOs with technical information on UPU products and services; and – Test application programming interfaces (APIs) and functions of applications developed by the UPU as part of implementation projects by DOs.
Qualifications/special skills
– Bachelor of Science or similar in information technology or related fields – student attached to a university or institution of a similar nature and whose course of study is in progress or about to be completed; or – Bachelor of Science or similar in information technology or related fields – graduate having grad¬uated a maximum of six months prior to the internship start date. – Good knowledge of APIs, web services and Microsoft SQL Server: configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting. – Knowledge of the International Postal System (IPS) and Customs Declaration System (CDS) applica-tions developed by the UPU.
Languages
Proficiency in English is mandatory (UN level II). French would be an advantage (UN level II).
