CIMMYT is looking for a proactive, self-motivated, and result-oriented professional for the position of Assistant Station Manager.

Objective To coordinate research agronomic management activities at the Agua Fria Research Station, optimizing both human and capital resources to achieve program goals while enhancing efficiency and reducing operational costs.

The location of this position will be CIMMYT’s research station in Agua Fría, Puebla.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Station Manager in overseeing the agronomic management of research plots, ensuring optimal plant growth through effective implementation of best practices and compliance with industry standards.
  • Coordinate pollination and data collection for nurseries and trials.
  • Assist the Station Manager in assessing staffing needs and managing the recruitment process for temporary workers.
  • Support the Station Manager in developing and implementing a comprehensive planting calendar, ensuring that all planting activities are executed according to established timelines.
  • Assist the Station Manager in organizing and overseeing harvest and post-harvest seed processing to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality seed to research programs through effective workflow coordination and quality control.
  • Collaborate with the Station Manager to manage maize doubled haploid (DH) operations, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality DH lines to both internal and external clients while maintaining rigorous quality standards and efficiency.
  • Take on the full range of station management responsibilities in the absence of the Station Manager, ensuring seamless operations, effective communication, and adherence to established protocols while maintaining productivity and team cohesion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in plant science, Agronomy, or related field 3 -5 years’ working experience in related field.
  • Basic understanding of plant physiology.
  • An understanding of soil science including soil fertility.
  • Familiarity with field plot techniques and methodologies.
  • Intermediate level of English (written and conversational). English will be tested, and candidate should score B1-B2 on CEFR.
  • Competencies: Critical Thinking, Teamwork, Communication, Client Orientation and Negotiation.
