Job Description

This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment. We also offer relocation support.

The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Risk & Compliance Directorate (GR&C), Group Financial Risk Department (GFIN), ALM and Market Risk Division (ALM), Market Risk and Pricing Control Unit (MRC) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) Financial Risk Management Officer.

This is a full-time position at grade 5/6 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Panel interviews are anticipated for April 2026

Purpose

You will develop and maintain robust risk policies and frameworks in the domain of pricing and market risk aligned with the Bank’s Asset and Liability Management (ALM) framework as well as best banking practices and regulations in order to ensure the proactive identification, assessment and oversight of risk exposures.

Operating Network

You will report to the Head of Market Risk and Pricing Control Unit and work closely with the risk officers within the division, as well as the Departments involved in financial and control matters, especially with the Finance Directorate, the Directorate for Lending Operations and Financial Control. You will interact, where appropriate, with external counterparts and both Internal and External Auditors.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement the 2nd LoD oversight framework for loan pricing (specific to financial risk pricing components) and market risk (Interest Rates, FX and Pension risks).
  • Prepare risk assessments related to the Bank’s Interest Rate Strategy.
  • Validate that the calculation of financial risk metrics of the EIB Group/EIF portfolios is consistent with other reports produced by Finance Directorate and/or Chief Financial Controller Directorate.
  • Drive innovation within the division by championing existing initiatives and fostering the development of new, high-impact ideas.
  • Ensure the integration and testing of new product representations within financial risk systems.
  • Steer the continuous enhancement of ALM and Financial Risk policies to align with evolving market practices, regulatory expectations and the Bank’s strategic risk appetite.
  • Ensure compliance with approved procedures and policies.
  • Lead the risk assessment of mandate-related activities by delivering Management Committee opinions, overseeing the underlying financial risks and designing operational buffers for covering those risks.

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor), preferably in Economics, Finance, Mathematics or another quantitative subject. Post-graduate studies in these areas would be an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in Finance, ideally ALM, Risk Management, Capital Markets, or Treasury functions.
  • Proven expertise in quantitative and financial modelling, including loan pricing and market risk sensitivities
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing models and methodologies supporting the monitoring and management of market risks in banking books.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Programming knowledge (e.g Python) would be an advantage.
  • Experience with IT systems such as WSS (FK), Business Objects, Power BI and CompatibL is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of financial markets and relevant regulations, including money markets, capital markets, and derivatives.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (***), with a good command of the other. (Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage).

(***) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
