The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB/the Bank) is seeking to recruit an Intern, Legal.

LEGAL DEPARTMENT

The Legal Department is responsible for providing legal services to the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB or the Bank). The Legal Department serves the entire Bank and, accordingly, provides services relating to both project and non-project activities. This will typically include services relating to lending, grant, guarantee and other financings, as well as advisory services and restructurings, resource mobilisation (borrowings, capital increases – including through new memberships, replenishments, and funds under administration), capital optimisation measures, and all administrative and institutional matters. The Legal Department also ensures that, in the conduct of its affairs, the Bank is in compliance with its Charter, policies, rules and procedures and, as applicable, international and municipal law. It is also responsible for ensuring that the negotiations and drafting of all Bank agreements are in compliance with the Bank’s policies and procedures and effective under relevant law. The Department has considerable interface with CDB’s Borrowing Member Countries, lenders and development partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conducting legal research on a diverse range of assigned issues under international law or otherwise under frameworks applicable to multilateral development banks using multiple research sources.

• Assisting in the review of legal documents, policies, procedures, or other Bank related material.

• Assisting in developing a framework to govern the use of artificial intelligence in the Bank’s internal and lending operations, including identifying key responsibilities and drafting procedures for operationalising the framework.

• Assisting in the preparation of agreements and contracts with governments, consultants and other public and private entities.

• Performing any activity or manage any other tasks related to the work of the Legal Department as designated or delegated by the GC and/or the Advisor to the GC.

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

Report to the General Counsel (GC) and/or the Advisor to the GC.

EDUCATION

Recently completed/graduated from Law School or Master of Laws program (not more than 12 months); and a general understanding of international law, international organisations and international financial institutions.

• Ability to listen and communicate effectively, including the ability to prepare, and present clear and concise briefs, reports and papers to assist the GC and/or Advisor to the GC.

• Ability to effectively manage time and tasks autonomously (with adequate supervision), taking ownership of tasks assigned and proactively anticipating next steps.

LOCATION, DURATION AND TIMING

The assignment will be based at CDB’s headquarters in St. Michael, Barbados over a 3-month period commencing on June 1, 2026 and ending on August 31, 2026.
