About the Europeana Foundation

The Europeana Foundation is an independent, non-profit organisation that, as part of the Europeana Initiative, stewards the common European data space for cultural heritage. We share and promote Europe's digital cultural heritage to be used and enjoyed by everyone for learning, for work, or just for fun.

What we do

Our range of projects and partnerships creates positive change in and around the cultural heritage sector through new shared services, models and frameworks that contribute to the digital transformation and sustainability of our diverse sector. We promote the use of digital technology that makes cultural heritage online accessible, traceable and trustworthy, which in turn means people can explore it, use it and learn from it with confidence.

How we work

With staff based in five countries, our international team operates in a hybrid working culture. Our team based in the Netherlands has the flexibility to come to work at our office or to work remotely. Our main office is based in the National Library of the Netherlands, next to The Hague Central Station. Our teams based abroad work fully remotely and participate occasionally in meetings and events in The Hague office.

About the team

The Marketing, Communications and Analytics team's goal is to raise awareness of Europeana and the common Europeana data space for cultural heritage, and engage a broad range of audiences - from members of the public looking to find and share Europe's culture, to partners working across cultural heritage and technology, to politicians and policymakers.

We aim to provide a strategic and evidence-based approach to marketing, communications and market intelligence activities, supporting organisational priorities around high-quality data and reuse, and key sectoral topics such as AI and 3D.

To support the team during a period of leave, we are offering a fixed-term contract for eight months, starting in late April to early May, with the exact date to be confirmed.

The role

Passionate about promoting all aspects of Europeana's work, the Editorial Officer works closely with leagues across the organisation to shape external communications that support our strategic messaging and reflect Europeana's tone of voice.

Key responsibilities:

Editorial:

  • Act as Editor in Chief for the common European data space for cultural heritage website, where you will be responsible for
    • implementing the Editorial Strategy,

    • managing the data space News section, including drafting, commissioning, copy-editing, proofreading and facilitating the promotion of content

    • the consistency of messaging and tone of voice across the site.

  • Draft editorial which supports and contributes to the Europeana's Initiative's strategic objectives and communicates our activities in the data space.

  • Provide guidance on, and copy-edit and proof editorial produced by leagues, ensuring the editorial is consistent with Europeana Initiative's brand, tone of voice and support key messages in our long-term strategy.

  • Provide editorial and copywriting support for the Europeana Aggregators' Forum, Europeana Network Association and its constituent communities, and on projects the Europeana Initiative and common European data space for cultural heritage is involved in, as needed.

  • Advise on publication of, and user journeys for, editorial for professionals across platforms managed by/contributed to by Europeana Foundation

  • Edit strategic documents, including Europeana's business plans, annual reports and white papers.

Marketing and Communications

  • Contribute to strategic communications and marketing campaigns which promote Europeana Initiative's products, services and activities

  • Support social media posting and community management as relevant

  • Contribute to evidence-based and data-driven Marcomms practices, including data lection, analysis and reporting on editorial and social media as relevant

Knowledge and Experience required:

  • At least three years' proven professional editorial and communications experience.

  • Strong proven writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

  • Experience of, or capacity to quickly learn editorial tools and content management systems, e.g. Wordpress, Canva, InDesign.

  • Affinity with the cultural sector and online projects.

  • Excellent organisational skills, a positive attitude and the ability to prioritise under demanding deadlines.

  • Strong laboration skills and ability to learn quickly.

  • Native or bilingual-level proficiency in English.

Salary and Benefits

  • Your monthly salary is estimated between EUR 3,600 - 4,400 (based on full-time employment), depending on the level of your experience

  • A holiday allowance of 8%

  • A thirteenth-month bonus

  • A part-time fixed-term contract for eight months, 32 hours per week, starting in late April to early May (exact date to be confirmed)
