CIMMYT seeks a dynamic, with orientation to results, with teamwork skills for the Digital Communications Specialist position to be part of the Engagement Chapter.   

The position will be based at CIMMYT headquarters in Texcoco, State of Mexico, near Mexico City.

Position Overview

The Digital Communications Specialist will lead and implement digital strategies that strengthen CIMMYT’s global online presence and reputation. The role is responsible for managing digital platforms, overseeing high-quality content production, and monitoring performance to optimize engagement and impact.

This position plays a key role in positioning CIMMYT as a global leader in food and agriculture research through strategic, data-informed digital communications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy

  • Manage and implement the digital communications operational plan, aligned with CIMMYT’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Strengthen CIMMYT’s reputation and visibility across global, regional, and national audiences.
  • Support donor engagement strategies through the implementation of donor communication plans in coordination with relevant teams.
  • Contribute to Chapter strategy and provide recommendations to enhance integrated, high-impact external communications.
  • Monitor performance metrics and prepare quarterly KPI reports for digital platforms, media outreach, and publications.

2. Creative Hub

  • Ensure consistent brand expression and compelling visual identity across digital platforms.
  • Lead the development and publication of high-quality content for the website, social media channels, and digital products.
  • Write, edit, and refine corporate and knowledge products to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with institutional standards.
  • Translate complex agricultural research into engaging, human-centered digital stories.
  • Establish and maintain editorial processes in alignment with global guidelines.
  • Oversee a roster of freelance editors, translators, designers, and digital specialists.

3. Media Relations

  • Coordinate with the Media Relations Analyst to integrate digital and social media components into campaigns and outreach activities.
  • Strengthen the amplification of research outcomes through coordinated media and digital strategies.

4. Social & Digital Communications

  • Lead the execution and optimization of social and digital campaigns to achieve defined engagement objectives.
  • Develop and manage content calendars tailored to platform formats and audience behavior.
  • Oversee social media engagement and community management.
  • Ensure the website remains user-focused, up-to-date, and strategically aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Coordinate with Regional Communications Managers to maximize impact across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
  • Support the Director General’s social and digital media strategy in alignment with overall communications objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, International Relations, Journalism, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 4–5 years of professional experience in digital communications, content development, social media management, or related areas.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proven experience managing digital content development and online engagement strategies.
  • Strong writing and editing skills for web-ready communication products.
  • Proficiency in digital content management systems and social media platforms.
  • Advanced English level (C1 or higher).
