Mission and objectives

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board. At the country level, UNV Field Units interact with UN entities to strategically and meaningfully integrate volunteerism into the implementation and delivery of their mandates. As part of this process, UNV works with UN entities to identify opportunities where volunteers add specific and unique value to development programmes and peacekeeping missions.

Context

This OV assignment is part of the UNV Pakistan Country Office’s efforts to promote equitable access to information and opportunities while further streamlining, optimizing, and updating its volunteer onboarding process – specifically the various pre-assignment (pre-departure) tasks for volunteers undergoing onboarding. By facilitating video content development in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, OVs will ultimately help bridge language barriers and enhance inclusive access to information, contributing to SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals, by improving communication and data dissemination. Note: The onboarded OV will be based remotely and will not be hosted at any duty station or field office by the United Nations.

Task Description

Under the supervision of the Coordination Support Assistant at UNV Pakistan, each Online Volunteer (OV) will creatively design one instructional video between 20-30 seconds. The standardized Urdu content of approx. 200 to 300 words (includes instructions, guidelines, and useful links / QR codes relevant to various tasks performed during the UNV onboarding process) will be provided to OVs. The designed video must ensure content delivery in a clear and precise manner. Thus, serving as a visual aid / guide that can be shared directly with candidates undergoing the UNV onboarding process. Edits may be requested by the UNV focal point to ensure necessary alignment and accuracy. OVs will also be provided with the UNV branding guidelines for reference. However, OVs will have creative freedom in terms of the overall design of the video. As such, innovative and unique design ideas are welcomed and highly encouraged. Similarly, integration of vibrant visuals, cultural nuances, video transitions, subtle background music (royalty and copyright free), and contextualized theming is expected. OVs are not expected to record / video graph any actual footage for this assignment. However, OVs may integrate such elements if they wish to do so. Submitted videos must be original *****Motivation Statement Guidelines***** OVs must feature an open access cloud storage link for a portfolio (video editing / design specific) that effectively showcases their past design experience and skillsets. Only candidates who feature said link will be considered. *****Video Specifications***** Duration: b/w 20 and 30 seconds Aspect Ratio: 1:1 (Square) Resolution: 1920x1080 pixels (Full HD) Format: mp4 Note: OVs must develop content in software while keeping in mind that they will be required to provide the layered project files and all associated assets (e.g., project files for Adobe software and Adobe After Effects, or original editable templates for Canva, CapCut, or Shortcut). As sharing of source files will allow for future modifications as required. *****Disclaimer***** • By submitting a video, OVs agree that all rights, including full intellectual property rights, are irrevocably transferred to UNV. Thus, UNV reserves the unrestricted right to use, edit, reproduce, publish, and distribute the video in any manner or medium without limitation. • By submitting a video, the creator confirms that the content is entirely original, does not infringe on any third-party rights, and is not copied, replicated, or derived from any existing published material. • Online Volunteers are not contracted or affiliated with UNV and are thus not considered UN Volunteers, employees, or agents of UNV or the UN.
