Living conditions and remarks
Yemen is currently considered as L3 crisis country, and travel to Sana’a international airport is by use of UNHAS flights. Yemenia flies three times a week, however, it is not accessible to international staff traveling to and out of Sana’a. the climate is favorable compared to other parts of Yemen. Due to the unpredictable security situation in Sana’a, All UN internationally recruited personnel reside in United Nations Common Accommodation Facility (UNCAF), which has been approved by UNDSS. Movement within the city is by armoured vehicles within designated areas, while in other areas, there is a requirement to get clearance from the national authorities and UNDSS. Yemen is a unique country and with a unique humanitarian operation. It provides for an interesting and enriching environment, but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as more stamina and commitment than elsewhere to make life comfortable and affordable. Therefore, flexibility and the ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and potentially hazardous conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort, are essential.
