Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational Setting, Purpose, and Objective: A. Background On 8 September 2022, the General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution 76/306 to establish a UN Youth Office as a dedicated entity for youth affairs within the Secretariat. The UN Youth Office is mandated to lead system-wide youth coordination, advocacy and policy coherence across the UN, while also promoting the meaningful engagement of young people in UN processes and decisions. A critical dimension of this work includes facilitating youth consultations, promoting intergenerational dialogue, and amplifying the voices and contributions of young people at the global level, including during key UN moments such as the General Assembly. B. Objective and Scope of Work The consultant will support the implementation of the UN Youth Office's meaningful youth engagement initiatives and activities. Duties and Responsibilities: Under supervision of the Chief of Section, Partnerships, Advocacy and Communication of the UN Youth Office, the editor will lead the editing and proofreading of various reports and publications launching in 2026, including: 1. An academic publication on youth mental health and well-being. 2. Two reports on youth political participation. 3. A research report on Youth-Inclusive Peace Processes in Libya, Tunisia, and Yemen. 4. A research report on integration of Youth Peace and Security (YPS) in Youth2030 implementation in Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Tunisia, and Lebanon. 5. A research report on regional workshop report on Youth Participation in Peace and Security in MENA.
Qualifications/special skills
Advance degree (masters or equivalent) in Literature, Journalism, Humanities, Foreign Languages, International Relations, Arts, or any other related fields is required. Two (2) years of demonstrated experience in proofreading and editing is required Work experience in editorial standards is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in written and spoken English is required; proficiency of other UN Languages is desirable.
