Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Resident Coordinator (RC) system, part of the UN Secretariat since January 2019, brings together all UN development organizations to provide coherent, effective and efficient support at the country level. The RC is the highest ranking official of the UN Development System in each country and the designated representative of—and reports directly to—the UN Secretary General. As such, the RC leads the UN Country Team and coordinates UN support to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda through shared standards, capacities and collaboration across UN entities. The RC system strengthens unified UN action to advance nationally, regionally and globally towards development goals. The internship to support monitoring and reporting will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of the Data, monitoring and reporting officer. Key responsibilities include: Support collection, review and consolidation of progress data and narrative inputs from UN entities to track UNSDCF results. Assist coordination of inter agency groups (e.g., follow up with Results Groups/M&E Group, interagency thematic groups). Support organization of UNCT/RC/RCO meetings, note taking, action tracking, and follow up. Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor, as required to support the effective implementation of monitoring, reporting, data management and coordination functions.
Qualifications/special skills
The basic education degree is HS Diploma Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) For this internship, studies in the fields of study in social sciences, international development, public policy, economics, statistics, data science, or other related areas are desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel, MS Teams. Is required. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable. Capable of performing administrative tasks efficiently is desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills is desirable. Familiarity with indicators, results frameworks, logical frameworks, and results based management concepts is desirable. Ability to maintain structured data repositories is desirable. Ability to draft clear summaries, meeting notes, briefs, and reporting inputs is desirable. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment is desirable.. Demonstrated respect for diversity, inclusion, integrity, and professionalism is desirable..
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge in spoken and written English is desirable for the internship. Knowledge of another UN official language would be an asset. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official language of the United Nations. NOTE: "Fluency" equals a rating of "fluent" in all areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and knowledge of equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
