The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.
At CHAI, our people are our greatest asset, and none of this work would be possible without their talent, time, dedication and passion for our mission and values. We are a highly diverse team of enthusiastic individuals across 40 countries with a broad range of skillsets and life experiences. CHAI is deeply grounded in the countries we work in, with majority of our staff based in program countries. Learn more about our exciting work: http://www.clintonhealthaccess.org

Position Overview:
South Africa continues to face pressing challenges in delivering efficient, transparent, and financially sustainable healthcare. Persistent inefficiencies in administrative, financial, and data systems have underscored the urgent need for digital transformation and stronger health financing structures. Sustainable Health Financing (SHF), in collaboration with the National and Provincial Departments of Health, is addressing these gaps through innovative digital health solutions designed to enhance governance, accountability, and cost efficiency within the public health sector.
To achieve this, SHF has partnered with the Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDoH) and other key stakeholders to implement systems that modernize and digitize core health and administrative functions. These include the Health Management System (HMS2) an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system improving data quality and patient care, the Tender Management Application enhancing transparency and accountability in procurement processes, the Fleet Management System improving oversight and utilization of health department vehicles, and the Approved Post List (APL) and Budget Management Instrument (BMI) strengthening HR and financial planning to optimize workforce and expenditure management.
In addition to digital transformation, SHF provides technical and analytical advisory support to national and provincial health departments on health financing reforms, including capitation models, resource allocation, and National Health Insurance (NHI) implementation planning. This involves conducting data-driven analyses, developing financial models, and producing recommendations to inform policy decisions.
CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong background in health systems strengthening, sustainable health financing, and digital health programme implementation. The ideal candidate will have experience working with government counterparts to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the health sector through innovative digital and financial solutions. This role requires an individual with strong communication and analytical skills, the ability to drive high-impact initiatives in a fast-paced environment, and experience in public health programme management. The Analyst will oversee a portfolio of digital health and health financing initiatives, including supporting the implementation of systems. The role will also involve contributing to analytical and advisory work on health financing reforms. CHAI places great value on commitment to excellence, resourcefulness, responsibility, tenacity, flexibility, independence, energy, work ethic, and humility.
The Analyst will ideally be based in The Eastern Cape Province, South Africa and report to the SHF Programme Manager.
