Result of Service
The incumbent will be responsible for: * ESCWA posts trending high and shared/forwarded/mentioned on various social media platforms. * Sustained increased access of ESCWA content by users from various groups and demographics. * High level of participation and interaction online by stakeholder groups, partner organizations and the general public in response to ESCWA's online activities social media accounts to official sites in the dissemination of ESCWA communications and knowledge products.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Communication Unit of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) considers social media platforms to be its primary communication channel for disseminating information related to ESCWA’s work, events, activities, announcements, and vacancies. To enhance the effectiveness and reach of its digital presence, the Unit requires a dedicated Individual Contractor to produce periodic social media listening reports and analytical insights. These reports will inform evidence-based marketing strategies and communication plans, strengthen audience engagement, and optimize content performance across platforms. Under the direct supervision of the Secretary of the Commission and Chief of External Relations and Outreach at ESCWA, the Communications Assistant (Social Media Specialist) is required to perform the below functions in close coordination with the Public Information Assistants at the Unit: 1) Assist in managing ESCWA social media platforms: o Develop, implement and manage ESCWA social media action plan o Implement a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific and timely campaigns o Manage and oversee social media content o Prepare content in English and Arabic o Work with team and designers to ensure content is informative and appealing o Develop and supervise paid digital campaigns for flagship events and publications. o Track return on investment (ROI) and provide performance analysis. o Optimize web content using SEO guidelines to increase regional visibility. 2) Assist in developing communication plans: o Meet with Clusters and assess their needs o Develop brand awareness and online reputation part o Identify and tailor elements for social media platforms o Assist in designing graphics and videos o Set up a promotional plan for high-level meetings o Draft storytelling concepts, scripts, and visuals for major ESCWA publications and events. o Provide strategic recommendations for improving visibility and public engagement. 3) Produce periodic social media reports: o Define most important social media KPIs o Measure the success of every social media campaign o Create templates to be filled post-events, monthly, quarterly and yearly o Manage online reviews and reputation building o Develop advanced dashboards for real-time monitoring and impact measurement. o Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership to improve performance. 4) Conduct training on social media: o Assess the gaps in the use of social media o Prepare material for training sessions on social media o Conduct training for small groups on advocacy o Develop bilingual (Arabic/English) guidance materials on best practices for social media. 5) Expand ESCWA network of friends and influencers o Search and identify influencers who are interested in the work of ESCWA o Establish a proper network of friends and maintain daily relationships with them o Prepare an action plan on involving the network of friends and ensure their interaction with ESCWA on different social media platforms o Coordinate collaborations with media partners, youth networks, and civil society organizations. o Strengthen ESCWA’s digital presence by initiating partnerships with UN agencies and regional stakeholders. 6) Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications/special skills
A master’s degree in communications or journalism or related field is required. A minimum of 13 years of professional work experience in public information work including social media campaigning and reporting is required. Experience in an international setting is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required; knowledge of French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (speak, read, write and understand) and “knowledge of” equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas.
