Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a seasoned and dynamic Financial Controller to oversee all financial control and accounting activities for our West Africa operations. This is a strategic hands-on role responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, managing cash flow and providing critical insights to drive business decisions in a complex and evolving regional environment. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic business partner with experience in financial and operational landscape.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting and Financial Controls

  • Lead the month-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timelines are met.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and regulatory reporting.
  • Oversee all accounting operations: AP, AR, GL, payroll, tax related filings and inventory accounting.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of senior management reports.
  • Coordinate and oversight of annual audits.

2. Budgeting, Forecasting and Analysis

  • Lead the annual budgeting and rolling forecast processes.
  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models to support planning decisions.
  • Analyse budget-to-actual variances and provide recommendations.

3. Strategic and Operational Support

  • Partner with operational leads to evaluate new projects, investments and market entry opportunities.
  • Serve as a financial business partner to market leads and operational managers.
  • Support commercial decision-making, business case evaluation and financial impact of business contracts.
  • Drive cost optimization and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Support inventory management and control processes.

4. Month end and Yead end process management

  • Process all journals on the accounting system (QBO).
  • Manage and Co-ordinate the month end closing process for reporting to HQ.
  • Prepare month end reconciliations for reporting to HQ.
  • Preparation of monthly P&L for review by Head of Finance.
  • Assist on the preparation and review of Statutory Financial requirements.
  • Assist with the Transfer pricing audit to provide accurate reports and info to the team to ensure transfer pricing report is correct and to ensure the tax submission can be completed.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
    • Professional financial accreditation is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a financial control or similar role.
    • Exposure to Quick Books Online (QBO) is an advantage.
    • Proven work experience with West Africa is essential.
    • Deep understanding of the financial frameworks and regulatory environment in the specified country and ideally the broader region.
    • Experience in a commercial business
