The Position:
This consultancy will provide programmatic, technical, advocacy and coordination oversight to the Family Life Education Program in RMI funded by UNFPA’s Transformative Agenda program. The FLE Programme Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation and monitoring of in-school and out-of-school Family Life Education.
The consultant will report to both PSS FLE Focal point and the UNFPA Programme Analyst in RMI.
How you can make a difference:
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. Grounded in the ICPD Programme of Action, UNFPA’s strategic plan (2026-2029) focuses on four interconnected outcomes: (a) Accelerating progress on meeting the unmet need for family planning; (b) Accelerating progress on ending preventable maternal deaths; (c) Accelerating progress on ending gender-based violence and harmful practices; and (d) Adapting to demographic change through evidence and rights-based policies. These results capture our strategic commitments on accelerating progress towards realizing the ICPD and SDGs in the Decade of Action leading up to 2030. Our strategic plan calls upon UN Member States, organizations and individuals to “build forward better”.
In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.
UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.
Approximately 50% of the population in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) is under 25 years old, and 20% is in the age group of 15-24 years . This presents a demographic window of opportunity that is critical in changing the development narrative of RMI. One of the major obstacles in leveraging the demographic dividend is the young people’s lack of access to youth friendly sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education and services. Low levels of SRH knowledge and skills among youth are often the cause of non-consensual relationships and unsafe sex behaviors that result in high rates of Sexually Transmitted Infections and adolescent pregnancies. It is essential to provide Family Life Education (FLE) to build healthy relationships skills, inform sexuality-related decision making by young people and promote access to quality youth friendly SRH services.
