Result of Service
Under the supervision of UNEP ROAP, the consultant will be responsible for developing and finalizing the methodology and agenda for the retreat, incorporating feedback from staff, to ensure that the retreat achieves its intended objectives and results taking into consideration the local context as well as diverse staff composition of both local and international staff based in Bangkok, India, China and Samoa. As the retreat will be a hybrid modality, the use of suitable tools to brainstorm ideas and encourage in-person and online participation is welcomed. A facilitator will ensure that the retreat is conducted in an interactive and participatory style, with participants actively engaged to share experiences and expertise and provide expert input on specific retreat sessions and moderate team building activities. Specific responsibilities of the consultant are as follows: Pre-retreat preparation • Review and analyze current UNEP ROAP as well as other Divisions’ priorities and existing challenges to collectively achieving results. • Design the retreat and methodologies to be utilized based on the agreed objectives and agenda. • Prior to the retreat, work closely with the Retreat Committee and Session Leads to ensure that each session aligns with the retreat objectives. • Regular discussions with the Retreat Committee to ensure that the retreat design and relevant preparation have been undertaken. During 2-day hybrid retreat (in person and online) • Facilitate and moderate all specified sessions of the retreat per the agreed agenda with a focus on increasing visibility, resilience and team building • Ensuring interactivity and maximum participation of the online and in-person participants for about 80 participants of which 10-20 % are expected to participate virtually. • Work closely with retreat committee and session leads to ensure that each session delivers its objective and contributes to the overall goal of the retreat • Facilitate interactions within the team that enhance innovation and optimize visibility of UNEP ROAP work to deliver UNEP’s mandate. Post-retreat • Prepare a report with key outcomes, recommendations, and action points. The report should capture key points raised during the retreat and debrief sessions held with the Organizing Committee during and after the retreat. Performance indicators for evaluation of outputs. • Satisfactory completion of deliverables and receipt of quality outputs • Timely delivery and approvals of submitted deliverables

Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s Asia and the Pacific Office geographically serves 41 countries across the region to promote and implement sustainable development solutions. It assists countries of the region pursue sustainability, particularly in their implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development including technical expertise, facilitating access to finance, undertaking cutting-edge science-policy assessments, offering advisory services and strengthening laws, policies, management and governance. UNEP works with national and local authorities, civil society, other UN organizations, research institutions and the private sector to catalyze the efficient use of the region’s natural assets and reduce the degradation of the environment. This retreat presents an opportunity for the Asia Pacific Regional Office to explore how it can contribute to UNEP’s new medium-term strategy 2026-2029 as well as delve into strategies to boost the visibility of results and impacts of our works, teams and offices in the region. The retreat also seeks to contribute to accelerating UNEP’s delivery of impactful environmental solutions for the Asia Pacific region. To enable in-depth conversation as well as meaningful inclusion, the retreat will be organized in hybrid modality, in-person in Bangkok for staff based in Bangkok duty station and selected country office staff and virtually for remaining staff based in duty stations outside Thailand. UNEP ROAP is engaging a consultant to facilitate the 2026 Retreat of UNEP Asia and the Pacific Office.
Qualifications/special skills
• An advanced degree in social science, business, communication and equivalent academic qualifications, and/or equivalent work experience is required. • Bachelor’s degree with 2 additional years of work experience. • Minimum 5 years of experience in designing and delivering interactive workshops, teambuilding activities, and staff retreats required. • Working experience in a multicultural environment including the United Nations is highly desirable. • Experience working with professional teams in the Asia Pacific region is desirable. • Excellent communications skills as evidenced by publications and experience are desirable. • Experience in programme management and experience working with senior management teams are highly desirable. • Training and/or facilitation certifications are desirable by UN System Staff College or other.
Languages
• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the advertised post, fluency in English is required.
