Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates the United Nations system’s efforts to ensure that commitments to gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action worldwide. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
UN Women has developed the project “Leveraging Crisis Data in Crisis and Conflict Situations” to address key challenges including the persistent demand for timely, reliable gender data in conflict and crisis settings, which is often unmet; rapid assessments that lack gender expertise and capacity, reducing their effectiveness; existing gender data that are incomplete, inadequately collected, irregular, and often fail to capture diversity and intersectionality; limited engagement of local women’s organizations with the gender data ecosystem, restricting their influence and access.
