Job Description

This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers you the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi-cultural environment. We also offer relocation support.

The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Finance Directorate (FI), Treasury Department (TRES), Financial Engineering and Advisory Services Division (FEAS) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, an Emerging market Loan Pricing and Product development Officer*.

This is a full time position at grade 5 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Purpose

The Financial Engineering and Advisory Services (FEAS) Division’s is supporting the lending activity of the bank by providing services on the pricing and hedging of lending-related products and the development of new lending products.

You will be required to:

  • price and quote rate EIB’s standard and non-standard lending/guarantee products
  • support the Lending Directorate in all procedural areas related to the successful closing of rate quotations
  • provide advice on newly developed lending/guarantee products and financial market conditions.

Operating Network

You will report to the Head of Division and work in close collaboration with other Loan Pricing and Product development Officer and Division members.

The post is qualified as "sensitive" and submitted to a specific Code of Conduct. The work location is the dealing room, in an open space working environment.

Accountabilities

  • Perform indicative and firm quotations of lending rates for all types of both standard and non-standard lending products, in a large extend in local currencies (synthetic or deliverable) on Emerging Markets, including guarantee structures, re-structurings, prepayments, rate revisions, in order to provide operational support to lending and re-structuring directorates to support the increase of quotation requests coming from EIB Global.
  • Provide advisory to lending, disbursement and monitoring officers and to clients on the products of the Bank, both on financial/market conditions and procedural aspects.
  • Provide business intelligence on lending solutions in Emerging Markets (EM).
  • Follow local EM markets and financial market conditions in order to provide advice to the lending directorates on the most financial appropriate structure.
  • Monitor pricing component evolution that can affect the EIB’s lending rate and the loan business pipeline.
  • Provide proactive follow-up on attractive currencies.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and the development of the front office system (Rate Setting Application - RaSA) to channel and process the Bank’s pricing requests for EM lending-related products of EIB.
  • Keep abreast of latest market developments and (regulatory) practices in EM, assess impacts on pricing policy/models and implement changes reflecting policy updates in the RaSA system.
  • Collect and check EM data consistency in the Extend the RaSA functionalities on EM (detailed information on the price construction).
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new local currency lending solutions with the assistance of the two EM Division’s specialists to meet customer requirements.
  • Maintain, on an on-going basis, a proper documentation of the implemented financial models.
  • Perform ad-hoc activities in special initiatives related to the responsibilities of the Division.

Qualifications

  • University degree (minimum an equivalent to a Bachelor) preferably in a quantitative domain such as Quantitative Finance, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics or Physics.
  • Professional / post graduate qualifications in financial market such as Financial Market Certificate -FMC, ACI Dealing Certificate is a strong advantage.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in financial engineering or (risk) modelling with a focus on the interest rate and forex on emerging markets.
  • Very good Knowledge of Excel or even VBA is required.
  • Knowledge of yield curve modelling and pricing of fixed income and forex derivatives is required.
  • Knowledge of PYTHON and Business Object is a considerable plus.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg/Reuters and database queries would be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of best market practices in emerging markets (derivatives, liquidity, risks, regulatory environment…).
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (***) with a good command of the other. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.

(***) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
