What we are looking for:
NRC Germany is looking for a seasoned Finance Adviser to keep our numbers strong and our operations compliant. In this part-time (60%) role, you will lead NRC Germany’s financial management - ensuring full compliance with NRC and national standards, while driving sound financial planning, monitoring, oversight, and control across projects and programmes implemented through NRC Germany.
What you will do:
Here are some of your generic responsibilities:
Comply with NRC and national policies, systems, procedures, and practices, adhering to NRC Finance Handbook and related quality assurance measures.
Manage and optimize finance processes, including budgeting, monthly reporting, monthly closing, payments, financial statements preparation and statutory/project audits.
Reconcile, monitor, control, and report on the Office’s finances, including budget and cash flows.
Contribute to the efficient financial management of programs/projects from conception to closing.
Provide guidance, technical support and capacity development to Office staff and NRC Regional and Country Offices on finance issues
Ensure best practices are identified, documented, and disseminated to regional and country offices.
Here are some of your specific responsibilities:
In cooperation with the Head of Support manage the organization’s financial systems and processes.
Entering transactions, maintaining general ledger, and accounting records.
Manage finance processes such as banking, payables/receivables, payroll, intercompany, budgeting and reconciliation.
Processing information; preparing monthly closing package, balance sheet, profit, and loss statement.
Assist in optimizing and digitalizing internal accounting processes such as payment run, salary journal.
Produce regular updates and analysis, control of office finances, including budget monitoring and cash flows.
In cooperation with the Head of Finance manage that the office’s financial set up adheres to the financial handbook, NRC policies, and local statutory requirements.
Co-Lead on external audits, year-end audits and follow up on recommendations.
Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
Provide technical support on project proposal development and implementation.
Conduct quality checks and reviews of program/project budgets and financial reports to donors, including where appropriate quality control on supporting documentation.
Support the submission of timely, accurate and complete proposals, payment requests and reports to German institutional donors.
Engage with NRC Global, Regional and Country level finance and implementing partners finance teams.
Monitor, document and verify incoming projects funds, communicate exchange rates to NRCs Country Offices and transfer project funds to NRC HO.
Deliver training and capacity building, and provide support and guidance on NRC’s finance policies, systems, tools, and German donor’s rules and regulations.
Conduct country field visits to monitor compliance of internal control and financial systems, and reporting protocols, as required.

What you will bring:
Minimum 10 years’ experience providing financial support across complex projects and budgets.
Familiarity with institutional funding and understanding of donor requirements.
Experience of working in complex and volatile contexts.
Detail-oriented and able to work independently.
Solid knowledge of computer software and modern accounting systems
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Fluency in German and English; knowledge of French an advantage.
What we offer:
Duty station: Berlin, Germany.
Contract: 2 years Part-Time (60%)
Travel: 5%.
Salary/benefits: Grade 8 on NRC’s Resident salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions.
