Background
The UN Clinic in Zimbabwe was established in 2004 to address the growing healthcare needs of United Nations personnel and their dependents, particularly in light of the challenges presented by the local healthcare delivery system. Over the years, the clinic has evolved to provide essential health services to approximately 4,000 UN personnel in Zimbabwe.
UN personnel are exposed to various health and security hazards that may result in disease, psychological trauma and life-threatening injuries. Dedicated, effective primary health, occupational health and emergency medical services may mitigate negative outcomes of trauma, injuries and health complications providing better chances for saving lives as well as for faster and better recovery.
The Health Manager is part of the UN common services of the UN country team in Zimbabwe and administered by UNDP.
Position Purpose
The Health Manager will work full-time at the UN Clinic, providing medical services to staff members and their dependents. Under the overall management of the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Operations, and with administrative support from the UN Resident Coordinator and technical supervision from the Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH), the Health Manager will oversee the daily operations of the clinic. This includes managing clinical staff and physical assets while ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality medical services to the UN Country Team (UNCT).
In addition, the Health Manager will facilitate medical evacuations in coordination with DHMOSH and participate in medical examinations for staff alongside designated UN Physicians. He/she will also promote proactive occupational health policies, best practices, and preventive health outreach for UN personnel and dependents. The Health Manager will also engage in HIV initiatives as outlined in UN Cares and UN Plus and will play an essential role in the emergency response team. This involves close collaboration with the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) and external medical emergency response teams on casevac and mass casualty responses.
While primarily based in Harare, the Health Manager may travel to other locations in Zimbabwe as necessary, guided by the requests of UN agencies and supported by DHMOSH.
