Background
The Department of Safety and Security is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the security programmes and activities of the United Nations System.
The Security Operations Assistant assists in the implementation of security operations, provide professional client-oriented security support service, monitor and actively support UN personnel movement, monitor all sources of information on security incidents and maintain and exercise the Security Communications Systems in the Jerusalem Security Operations Center (JSOC) in Israel, Occupied Palestinian Territory and Jerusalem (IoPtJ).
The Security Operations Assistant works under Chief SIOC and is supervised by a SIOC Operations Officer in maintaining visibility of UN personnel in the Security Areas, conducts headcounts and ensures operations are conducted efficiently and professionally. In cases of emergency, the Security Operations Assistant maintains communication between the affected UN personnel and the relevant security professionals.
Under the guidance of Chief SIOC and direct supervision by a SIOC Operations Officer, the Security Operations Assistant will undertake the assigned functions in order to ensure successful implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will undertake the following functions:
1)Provide all United Nations and Saving Lives Together (SLT) framework organizations prompt, friendly and professional client-oriented security support services (Client Orientation, Hospitality Services).
2)Ensure official movement is monitored in order to provide information about changes in the risk environment and to allow a rapid head count of all UN personnel and those included in SLT agreements.
3)Monitor all sources of information including the media for reports of security incidents.
4)Maintain a log of all verified security incidents.
5)Maintain and exercise the Security Communications Systems, including VHF radio system.
The incumbent performs any other duties agreed to within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
