Senior Research Assistant (Internal#123/2025)

This position will be hired for the Laboratory of Environmental Health under the Health Systems and Population Studies Division and the laboratory is currently focusing research on Comprehensive Water Quality Assessment and Capacity Enhancement of Healthcare staff in District and National level hospitals across Bangladesh. Various approaches will be used for monitoring and assessment of water quality in 181 healthcare facilities in Bangladesh. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in environmental microbiology, along with critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The assistant will help uphold the organization's ethical standards and operational guidelines to ensure the integrity and quality of research outputs.

Duties and responsibilities

The position holder will report to the Scientist. The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below:

• Processing of water samples in the laboratory for microbiological and chemical analysis;
• Identification, isolation, and detection of enteric bacteria from water samples by culture and various molecular techniques;
• Perform bacterial Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Assays including determining the molecular basis of AMR;
• Perform extraction of DNA for conventional PCR, real-time PCR, and qPCR;
• Preparation of project progress reports and presentations;

• Assist in preparing scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

Required qualification and experience:

• Masters in Biotechnology;
• At least 3 years of experience in relevant fields.

Location: Mohakhali Campus, Dhaka.

Contract Type and duration:

Short term Contractual Service Agreement (CSA) basis; duration will be 3 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• Tk.39,544/- per month (consolidated), inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
