The work of UN Women in Mozambique is guided by its Country Strategic Note (SN) for 2023 -2026 which is aligned with the Global Strategic Plan of UN Women for 2022-2025, the United Nations Sustainable Development Framework 2022-2026 and the PGQ 2022-2024 and aims to contribute to the gender-responsive implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. To enable effective implementation of the CO Strategic Note and 2025 Workplan, UN Women Country Office is seeking to recruit an intern to work collaboratively with the Planning, M&E and Reporting Officer (PMERO) in improving the organization´s data collection and management therefore evidence-based reporting.

Internships at UN Women provide students, individuals who are enrolled in a mandatory national service programme, and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds exposure to working with gender equality issues and a first-hand experience with the day-to-day working environment of UN Women.

Description of Responsibilities:

• Under the overall guidance of the Country Office Representative and direct supervision of the Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation and Reporting Officer (PMERO) the intern works closely with the Programme and Operations Teams and will perform the following tasks:
• Provides initial support in uploading evidence to inform all indicators (Development Results and Organization Effectiveness and Efficiency) that UN Women Mozambique responds to until this activity is fully implemented by programme teams.
• Assist with the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of program activities.
• Contribute to the design and takes part in the implementation of M&E activities.
• Support in preparing project progress reports.
• Organizes data to be uploaded into corporate databases.
• Collecting and analyzing data related to project activities.
• Supporting data collection efforts.
• Provides support to teams in uploading evidence to inform all indicators (Development Results and Organization Effectiveness and Efficiency) that UN Women Mozambique responds to until this activity is fully implemented by programme teams.
• Providing administrative support for M&E capacity-building initiatives.
• Conduct background research on gender equality, women’s rights, and development issues.
 

Note: Responsibilities may vary based on unit (e.g. Governance and Leadership, Economic Empowerment, Humanitarian Action, Ending Violence). The intern performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

• Understand the role of strategic partnerships in advancing women’s rights.

• Build cross-cultural communication and teamwork skills in a diverse, international work environment.

Functional Competencies:

• Some knowledge and/or strong interest in gender equality and women's rights issues;

Qualifications
Education:
University studies in one of the following disciplines: Statistics, Economics or Sociology.
Meet one of the following:
1.Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
2.Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
3.Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; or
4.Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Experience:
• Experience with data collection and analysis tools.
• Experience in drafting and using qualitative and quantitative data collection tools.
• Some experience in research is highly desirable.
• Good ICT skills.
• Ability to work under guidance and follow procedures.
 

Language and other skills:
• Basic proficient in written and oral English and native Portuguese speaker
• Computer and social media skills and good command of MS Office
• Proven report writing skills
 

Renumeration:
Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
