Technical expertise and admin support is provided to the Unit’s projects activities resulting in high quality outputs that overall contribute to the reduction of mercury pollution in the context of the activities undertaken.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide support to the execution of the global project under the GEF funded planetGOLD programme, including: • Undertake regular consultations with the key partners, national focal points and co-executing organizations regarding the knowledge management and communication priorities and needs for the program. • Support the work on the knowledge management and communication e.g. by contributing to the website maintenance, creation of new content, editing and monitoring inputs from country project focal points, dissemination of information, conducting training sessions etc. • Support the ongoing work on programmatic quarterly and yearly reporting and data analytics/visualization. • Coordinate logistical aspects of the global event organization, including annual programme meetings and other events. 2. Contribute to the other GEF funded mercury projects, including: • Support the projects that focus on mercury-added products by contributing to the global knowledge management and communication as well as supporting the technical work on mercury waste. • Support project on Primary Mercury Mining by providing technical and admin services. • Liaise with the UNEP GEF Unit regarding the administrative aspects of the projects and internal agreements. 3. Support the work of the Secretariat of the Global Mercury Partnership and other work of the Unit, including: • Contribute to the development of the new concept note/projects proposal on mercury, e.g. on phasing out mercury lighting. • Support the development of the curated guide to mainstreaming pollution into biodiversity agendas. • Liaise with the related stakeholders, including Law Division, Communication Division, Science Division, UNEP GEF team, and Digital Transformation team. • Contribute to the other tasks as necessary, e.g. in relation to relevant UNEA decisions.
Qualifications/special skills
Master’s degree or equivalent in a field related to environment/natural sciences, environmental engineering or environmental governance. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying' experience (2 additional years) may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in environmental domain, including sound management of chemicals and waste is required. Experience working with GEF projects is required. Strong knowledge and understanding of the environmentally sound management of mercury, from a technical as well as policy/regulatory perspective is desirable. Experience in supporting administrative elements of project development and execution is desirable. Experience in organizing a multi stakeholder international event is desirable. Strong analytical, research and drafting skills, as well as ability to tailor language and styles to relevant audiences, including policy makers and the private sector is desirable. Experience in data analysis, reporting and capacity building in different settings is desirable. Working experience(s) in a multicultural environment, particularly in the UN System, is an asset.
Languages
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of French and Spanish is an asset.
