Working under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes, and the direct supervision Project Coordinator, the intern will assist with operational and administrative activities of the Economic Integration Team. Tasks will include:
• Assisting with review, proofreading and editing of texts;
• Supporting the translation of documents from English to Portuguese and vice-versa;
• Assisting with knowledge management tasks, including by organizing files and folders, and keeping relevant documents and spreadsheets up to date;
• Assisting with administrative tasks of the unit, including notetaking of meetings, record keeping, preparation of minutes, internal administrative and financial procedures;
• Interacting with other IOM units on relevant activities;
• Support in the migration regularization process and general guidance for the migrant population.
• Support the organization of events aimed at promoting social cohesion and the socioeconomic integration of migrants
• Undertaking all other tasks as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION
• High school diploma;
• Currently (a) enrolled in a graduate degree programme of a recognized institution in Public Administration, International Relations, Social Sciences, Communications or other related field; or
• (b) Enrolled in a postgraduation programme of a recognized institution in Public Administration, International Relations, Social Sciences, Communications or other related field; or
• (c) Have graduated with a university degree or postgraduation diplome as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
• Are between 20 and 36 years of age.
EXPERIENCE
• Having a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
• Professional experience working with government institutions, civil society organizations, United Nations agencies, or the private sector.
• Background in migration and refugee-related work within the public or private sector, international organizations, or civil society is considered an asset.
• Experience performing administrative tasks.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
REQUIRED
For this position, fluency in Portuguese is required (oral and written).
DESIRABLE
Working knowledge in English, Spanish or French is a distinct advantage.
