Internship in Strategy, Communication and International Relations Division

Internship title: EUMETSAT cooperation with Africa

EUMETSAT, Europe’s operational satellite agency for monitoring weather and climate from space, supports cooperation with Africa to strengthen access and use of satellite data for sustainable development, disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.

The Strategy, Communication and International Relations Division is seeking an intern to contribute to EUMETSAT’s engagement with African partners in 2026.

The main focus of the internship project will be threefold:

• Contribute to the 17^th EUMETSAT User Forum in Africa;
• Communicate the impact of MTG data in Africa;
• Support cooperation with emerging African space agencies.

• Organising a webinar in preparation for the 17th EUMETSAT User Forum in Africa, focusing on the use of EUMETSAT and Copernicus data for weather, climate and environmental applications.
• Proposing and developing incentives to encourage youth participation in the sessions (online and in-person) of the 17th EUMETSAT User Forum in Africa.
• Supporting the collection and analysis of feedback on the use of Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) data received through the new PUMA-2025 stations.
• Documenting how these data are improving the operations of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) in Africa, and developing stories for social media and other platforms to highlight the added value of MTG in Africa.

• Studying the development of the space sector in Africa and analysing ways for EUMETSAT to strengthen its cooperation with African space agencies.
• Following policy developments in the European Commission, with a focus on international partnerships in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
• Assisting with day-to-day activities of the Strategy, Communication and International Relations Division as required.

• Have the ability to work effectively in English;

• Have the ability to collect, collate, conceptualize and present information clearly.

Additional specific requirements:

• Strong analytical and writing skills;
• Ability to engage with international stakeholders in a multicultural context;
• Interest in international cooperation, sustainable development, and the role of science and technology in supporting society and international relations (“science diplomacy”).
