This position will be hired for the icddr,b Centre for Climate-Change and Health (iCCH)' which has been established in the icddr,b Chakaria campus under the auspices of the Wellcome Trust funded project, 'Measuring the Global Impact of Climate Change on Human Health from a Local Sentinel Site'. A fully equipped microbiology lab has been established under the iCCH which will process the biological (stool) and environmental samples collected from the local community covered under the Chakaria HDSS (health and demographic surveillance system). icddr,b, in collaboration with the Wellcome Sanger Institute, will focus on understanding the link between climate stressors like salinity and the changes in gut microbiome and their impact on the overall health of the community. This platform will create scope for exciting future research collaboration. The multidisciplinary exploration at iCCH will entail extensive capacity-building engagements for its staff.

Key responsibilities:

The Assistant Technician, Electrical, will report to the Field Research Officer and will be responsible for Electrical Equipment Operation & Maintenance, Plumbing & Other Services. He/She will be involved in—

The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below:

• Installation, Operation & regular maintenance work of all kinds of electrical Equipment independently following standard procedure (i.e Generator, sub-stattion, AC etc);
• Conduct inspection of electrical equipment as and when required;
• Prepare cost estimates of materials list as required;
• Maintain a logbook for equipment, requisitions, visits, materials used, etc.;
• Report to the supervisor for all kinds of Electrical work;
• Follow the preventive maintenance schedule of the generator and ACs;
• Ensure uninterrupted power supply all over the office;
• Understand electrical drawing and circuit diagram;
• Carry out electrical troubleshooting and repairing of electrical goods in their components; Carry out electrical power line work, including installation & preventive maintenance of ATS/DB/SDB;
• Check, repair & fix water lines, Gyezer, flash tanks, tape, and other accessories;
• Identifying problems of UPS and solar panels;
• Replace and servicing of UPS/IPS battery;
• Carryout any other duties as and when required basis and troubleshooting other devices as per the instructions of the supervisor.

Required qualification and experience:

• SSC or equivalent with a 04-month vocational/trade course on electrical works.
• 3 years working experience in the electrical-related field. Candidates who have A/B/C electrical work license may get preference.

Contract Type and duration:

• Fixed term basis for One year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• Annual Tk. 381,680/-, inclusive of house rent, conveyance, and other admissible benefits;
• 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
