Result of Service
The incumbent will be responsible for the following: - Identification of a list of schools in Palestine, with a special focus on rural and marginalized areas, to participate in the SDG Stories Phase V. - Establishing networks between private and public schools to undertake joint activities and development projects. - Conducting field visits to beneficiary schools to monitor the progress of activities. - Successful organization of highlight events related to the SDG Stories Initiative in Palestine. - Establishing partnerships with municipalities, civil society organizations and the private sector to support the implementation of the SDG Stories Project.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background The SDG Stories Team was established by ESCWA’s Executive Secretary to engage young persons aged 7 to 16, across the Arab region, with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using storytelling. This is achieved primarily through the development and dissemination of a comic book, the “ESCWA Stories”, that presents engaging stories centered on the SDGs. Against this background, the SDG Stories Team is seeking the services of a designated focal point and focal point assistant to support and facilitate the work of the SDG Stories Team in Palestine. Duties and responsibilities The Focal Point Assistant is expected to provide operational and logistical support to the appointed focal point in Palestine in the following duties: - Acting as focal point between ESCWA, the Ministry of Education and the designated beneficiary schools in Palestine, in support of the “SDG Stories” Initiative. - Identifying target schools to take part in the SDG Stories Initiative for the academic year 2025-2026, including schools in remote and underprivileged areas. - Advising schools and national authorities and stakeholders in Palestine on the adoption and implementation of activities related to the SDGs. - Facilitating the flow of information between ESCWA and the designated beneficiary schools in Palestine. - Facilitating virtual meetings for the SDG Stories Team with the designated beneficiary schools. - Assisting the SDG Stories Team in the planning and organization of events relevant to the initiative, including capacity building sessions for teachers, and the “SDG Stories Day - Palestine”. - Exchanging expertise with the SDG Stories Team and facilitating cooperation and partnership. - Contributing to the promotion of the SDGs, intergenerational dialogue, good citizenship and global leadership among teachers, staff and students participating in the SDG Stories Initiative.
Qualifications/special skills
A recognized first level degree in education, sociology, psychology, social service, international relations, political science or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 5 years of professional work experience with schools, NGOs, local governments and international organizations, on projects related to education, science and culture is required. Experience working with public and private schools in Palestine is desirable. Relevant UN experience is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
