As Internal Communication Officer, you’ll be at the heart of that mission—designing and delivering timely, relevant, and engaging communications that keep our personnel informed, inspired, and aligned with strategic priorities and institutional developments.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Under the direct supervision of Chief, Global Communication and Engagement, you will be responsible for:
1. DEVELOP AND DELIVER INTERNAL COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES - Design and implement a comprehensive internal communication framework aligned with WMO’s strategic goals and change initiatives. - Identify communication needs across departments and tailor messaging to diverse staff segments. - Support senior leadership with talking points, Q&As, and presentations that clearly convey institutional priorities and reforms. - Serve as a key partner to HR, Executive Management, and Directors on internal messaging and staff engagement.
2. CREATE AND CURATE HIGH-IMPACT CONTENT - Source updates and insights from across the organization to craft compelling internal stories and announcements. - Produce clear, engaging content for newsletters, intranet posts, staff emails, blogs, and policy updates. - Draft leadership communications that reflect WMO’s values and promote transparency and trust. - Ensure editorial excellence and consistency across all internal communication outputs.
3. MANAGE INTERNAL CHANNELS AND PLATFORMS - Oversee the intranet content strategy, ensuring timely updates and intuitive navigation. - Lead the production of internal newsletters, managing editorial calendars and curating relevant content. - Recommend and implement new tools and formats to enhance communication reach and effectiveness. - Monitor engagement metrics and user feedback to continuously improve channel performance.
4. FOSTER ORGANIZATIONAL COHESION AND STAFF ENGAGEMENT - Coordinate internal campaigns and events that build community, inclusion, and alignment with WMO’s mission. - Support staff briefings, recognition initiatives, and strategic change communications. - Facilitate two-way communication through feedback loops, surveys, and interactive formats like town halls and digital Q&As.
5. SUPPORT CRISIS AND CHANGE COMMUNICATION - Collaborate with leadership and HR to develop sensitive and strategic messaging during periods of transition or crisis. - Advise on tone, timing, and audience segmentation to ensure effective and empathetic communication.
6. CONTRIBUTE TO BROADER COMMUNICATION EFFORTS - Participate in cross-functional planning with media, digital, and publications teams. - Provide training and guidance to content owners and focal points to strengthen internal communication capacity across the Secretariat. | QUALIFICATIONS | Education Master's degree or equivalent in communications, organizational psychology, public relations, or related field. A first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with two years of additional directly relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the master’s degree. | Experience A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in internal communications, staff engagement, or organizational change communications, preferably in a multicultural or international setting. | Other requirements YOUR PROFILE A highly empathetic and articulate communications professional with exceptional interpersonal skills and a strong sense of discretion when handling sensitive information.
