The Junior IC will deliver 3 composite research packages, including sector mapping, policy briefs and strategy notes, which will enable the RC and UNCT to focus effort on specific areas of collaboration to further promote progress on sustainable development in KSA.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The UN Secretary-General's Development System reform, launched on 1 January 2019 in response to General Assembly resolution 71/243, repositions the UN Development System to deliver on the 2030 Agenda for dignity, prosperity and peace on a healthy planet. Central to this process, and as further mandated by General Assembly resolution 72/279, a new generation of UN Resident Coordinator Offices across the world are being strengthened under the leadership of an empowered UN Resident Coordinator, the highest-ranking representative of the UN Development System at country level. Duties and Responsibilities: To effectively coordinate the collective work of UN Country Teams in support of national aspirations, Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) enhanced core capacities include expertise in coordination and strategic planning and economics for tailored policy support. The Resident Coordinator leads the United Nations Team for Saudi Arabia, which comprises 27 UN entities. The work of the UNCT with the Government is guided by UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (2022-2026) - https://saudiarabia.un.org/en/185831-un-sustainable-development-cooperation-framework. Under the direct supervision of the Resident Coordinator, the Independent Consultant (IC) Research Assistant will support the efforts of the RC Office and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) by providing well researched sectoral mapping, literature reviews, policy briefs, strategy notes, etc. to enhance and accelerate development of KSA towards achieving Vision 2030 and the SDGs.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher, PhD students included) in Economics or a related field (Statistics, Social Science) is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in carrying out social, economic and environmental research, policy and analytical work and/or other research is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
