Duties and Responsibilities

Security Guard works under direct supervision of Security Associate. The Security Guard provides guard service ensuring protection of the UNDP employees, premises, vehicles and other property. Security Guard performs his/her duties scheduled per shifts (1 shift = 8 working hours). The incumbent will be required to wear Guard’s uniform while standing the post and ensure proper use of “Use of Force” equipment Security Guard duties are defined in standing Standard Operating Procedures, Post Orders, and other relevant security plans. The following sections describe general Security Guard duties but they are not limited to them:

1. Access Control:
- Provide identification of UNDP employees by their IDs, visitors by the national passports or Driver’s license;
- Perform the pedestrian access control to the UNDP premises ensuring that all personnel and visitors entering the premises are properly identified, screened and logged;
- Control the access of the diplomatic cars into the court yard of the UNDP premises preventing the use of the parking zone designated for the diplomatic cars by the other drivers;
- Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering the UNDP premises. Gives access to the UNDP employees and those, whose names are indicated in the ‘access request form”;
- Ensure that the persons removing equipment or property from the UNDP premises present the equipment and valid documents in which this action is duly authorized;
- Perform the roving checks of the UNDP premises and its inner, outer perimeter and parking area in front of the compound;
- Use access control technical equipment. Maintains control of the emergency key system and its log sheet;
- Implement all related and prescribed technical and nontechnical measures at the request of the supervisors.

2. Order Maintenance:
- Maintain peace and order within UNDP;
- Know the existing security procedures and comply with them.
- Maintain operation of the security control center:

  • a) UNDP Building Emergency Line;
  • b) Public Address System;
  • c) Video Surveillance System;
  • d) Intrusion Detection System;
  • e) Fire Safety and Suppression System;
  • f) Security alarm system;
  • g) Electronic door locking/access control system;
  • h) VHF working channel for d/s Area;

3. Emergency response:
- Act as a response during any emergency or incident during working hours as well as weekends and holidays;
- Know how to properly employ firefighting equipment should a fire be discovered on premises.

4. Observation and Reporting:
- Provide support in regular and ongoing reviews and inspections of current security procedures, policies and systems;
- Maintain all logbooks in respect to established routine;
- Provide verbal and written incident report to supervisors;
- Provide security support for organized events upon request;

Perform other duties as directed by the Supervisor.

Min. education requirements Secondary education is required
Min. years of relevant work experienceMinimum 2 years of experience in providing security services
Required skills
  • Technical expertise with fire alarm systems and technical security, video- surveillance, metal detectors, security alarm system;
  • Experience in the usage of windows applications, internet, e-mail;
  • Good communication skills, ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Client orientation, attention, stress resistance
Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section
  • Additional trainings in providing security services, first aid, etc. are an asset.
  • Experience with international organizations or embassies is an asset.
Required Language(s)
  • Fluency in the national languages.
  • Working knowledge of English is preferable.
