BACKGROUND
The Union Applications Team maintain, support and develop critical web applications used to manage, communicate and engage with IUCN constituents (Members, Commissions, Council, Secretariat, Donors and Partners).
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented, all round web developer with proven knowledge in web development as well as web security and systems integration. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of the complexities of data management and the ability to provide simple, user-friendly business solutions in the context of IUCN’s limited resources.

Lead role in the development and enhancement of Drupal/PHP based web applications for a variety of projects and audiences. Common responsibilities include:
• Contribute to the architectural design of web applications
• Configuration and customization of the Drupal/PHP applications
• Maintenance and upgrades of the Drupal/PHP applications
• Development of new features for the Drupal/PHP applications
• Build reusable code and libraries
• Ensure integration with other IUCN systems through web services and data warehouse
• Integrate testing as part of development process
• Focus on timely and quality deliveries
• Maintain complete systems documentation

Applications and infrastructure maintenance
• Apply server and application patches and upgrades
• Monitor use and performance

User support
• Provide user support
• Conduct user trainings
• Develop training material
• Perform data management tasks

The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in IUCN, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee's responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources Management Group.

REQUIREMENTS
• Essential
• First degree or higher qualification in Computer Science / Software Engineering or similar field
• At least five years of professional experience in web development
o Experience in back-end development with excellent knowledge of PHP and MySQL
o Experience in front-end development with knowledge in HTML, CSS and Javascript
• Sound experience in development, deployment, customization and configuration of Drupal and/or CiviCRM
• Advanced knowledge of relational databases
• Experience in systems integration
• Experience in configuring / maintaining Linux and/or Windows web servers
• Excellent verbal and communication skills in English
• Independent and confident working under little supervision


• Desirable
• Experience using cloud-based services
• Experience developing multilingual applications
• Experience with support ticketing systems
• Previous experience working in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers located on and offsite
• Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French
