Your team

Within the The European Green Sky Directorate, the Aviation Intelligence Unit (AIU) leverages a huge range of EUROCONTROL data and analytical insights to promote the Agency's expertise and provides key data for decision makers.

As a Data Analyst and Visualisation Expert, you will develop content and visualisations for the Aviation Intelligence Unit (AIU) digital product portfolio, you will propose new products to develop and expand the portfolio. You will also support the delivery of AIU data analysis and you will ensure continuous optimisation of data quality, data harmonization and availability across AIU and the Agency.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Process and cleanse large amounts of data, in differing format, from multiple sources and produce data analysis, reports and visualisations.
  • Identify and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets and produce briefings for senior management, data snapshots, aviation trends, think papers, etc.
  • Develop high-quality reporting and visuals to maintain and expand the Aviation Intelligence Unit (AIU) digital portfolio for internal and external stakeholders (including AIU Portal, EUROCONTROL Data app, AIU airport dashboard, etc).
  • Support the service and the Agency wide harmonisation of data and data processes and develop the necessary documentation.
  • Improve the existing data infrastructure and tools and liaise the technical changes with the relevant teams in support of the development of digital products.
  • Follow latest evolutions in field of expertise and share best practices within the internal community.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completed university degree of 4 years followed by 3 years of relevant working experience OR completed university degree of 3 years followed by 4 years of relevant working experience. The experience gained within an aviation/air transport related organisation would be considered an asset.
  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Experience in analysing complex data and producing reporting products (implementation of data analytical algorithms, data summaries [time, trend, population breakdowns], and associated data visualisations).
  • Experience with data visualisation tools, such as Power BI, Google Data Studio, Google charts API, D3/Observable notebooks, Tableau etc.
  • Experience or knowledge of SQL (e.g. within MS Access, Oracle environments), as well as R programming language or Python. Experience with or knowledge of VB to interface with Excel would be a definite asset.
  • Experience with or knowledge of markdown languages, such as R Markdown and/or Quarto would be a definite asset. Experience with or knowledge of cloud and big data tools (e.g. Azure, Apache Spark, Hive, Impala, etc.) would also be an asset.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1/C2. The selected candidate will be required to become basic users at level A1/A2 of French before the end of the probation period.
    The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

Useful information

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 5 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed up to a maximum of 9 years or converted into an undetermined contract. Before being established in the post, the selected candidate will be requested to provide certified copies of their degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • Internal candidates
    If selected, the person will keep their current type of appointment duration (undetermined or determined).
    The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
