Job Description

The Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) department within FHI 360’s U.S. Programs is a national leader in applying a science-based approach to social marketing and communication to address public health and other challenges in the U.S. SMC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.S. that are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Agriculture, private associations, and foundations. In the past decade, our team has worked on issues such as diabetes, emergency and pandemic preparedness, obesity prevention, sexual health, HIV/AIDS, cancer, asthma, immunizations, violence prevention, access to health care, and tobacco control and cessation. This position is contingent on donor funding.

Job Summary:

Manages communication and marketing tasks and activities, and communication staff, within the Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) department. Develops and implements communication strategies through written communication plans; works as part of a project team and leads staff and vendors in the development of a variety of quality communication products and promotional materials, including fact sheets, brochures, posters, infographics, website content, social media content, digital products, and video and photography production; interfaces with SMC clients to develop effective communication products; manages task budgets and relevant procurement activities; assists with reporting requirements. Conducts community engagement activities as appropriate to learn about campaign audiences and relevant populations.

Accountabilities:

  • Manages the creative development activities on a variety of projects, including development of strategy and implementation plans and serving as primary client contact for all creative requests

  • Coordinates with graphic designers, subcontractors, vendors, other team members, and clients to establish workflow and timelines.

  • Develops systems and processes to effectively complete task deliverables of high quality that are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Monitors and addresses client issues in a timely manner, keeping senior project managers apprised of status and progress.

  • Plans and leads community engagement activities to gain insights into campaign audiences

  • Contributes to business development efforts, including proposal strategy and tactics, partnering recommendations, budget assumptions, and writing of technical sections.

  • Participates in the development of relevant trainings for clients and colleagues.

  • Works collaboratively within SMC, US Programs, and across FHI 360 on relevant communication-related opportunities.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to meet fast-paced project deadlines and adapt to changes in direction.

  • Sound, professional judgment for making project-related decisions.

  • Experience working on health- and racial-equity topics

  • Experience supporting US Government or health-related non-profit communication projects.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of health communication and/or marketing principles.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team to prioritize and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines.

  • Experience working in a multi-faceted team that includes communication researchers and graphic designers.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial and collaborative manner with work colleagues and clients.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Manages staff to meet project goals.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field.

Experience:

  • Typically requires 5-8 years of communications or management experience. Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the key responsibilities of the job.

  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.

  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift 5-50 lbs.

Technology to be Used:

  • Personal Computer, Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail, telephone, printer, calculator, copier, cell phones, PDAs and other hand held devices.

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 10%

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidate FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $90,000 - $117,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
