The BIS supports central banks’ pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation and serves as a bank for central banks. To pursue its mission, the BIS provides central banks with in-depth analysis and insights on core policy issues and a forum for dialogue and broad international cooperation. The Monetary and Economic Department (MED) stands at the centre of the BIS’s economic analysis and cooperative activities. MED undertakes research and analysis on core policy issues for central banks; provides secretariat support for the BIS-hosted committees; and facilitates key meetings of senior central bankers and officials.

The opportunity

As Deputy Head of MED and Head of Economic Analysis & Statistics, you will be a key member of the senior leadership of MED providing intellectual leadership and strategic direction in macroeconomics, monetary economics, international economics and statistics, and to oversee the analytical work in support of the meetings of governors and senior central bank officials the BIS.

As a senior member of MED’s management team, you will play a key role in the management of the department internally and contribute to the overall decision making at the BIS as a member of the Bank’s enlarged Executive Committee. You will also have a highly visible profile externally, with responsibility for representing BIS at senior levels in international forums.

The individual

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Outstanding credentials in leading the analysis of macroeconomics, monetary economics, and statistics, which could be gained within a variety of forums including central banking, financial services, or academia.
  • Excellent people leadership skills with a proven ability in developing and inspiring teams and the ability to shape the work of an expert department.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with the capacity to engage with senior policymakers, academics and practitioners at the highest levels internationally.
