Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is UNPAID and full-time in duties and responsibilities. In accordance with its mandate, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) focuses on working with States and civil society to prevent crime and related offences from posing a threat to security, peace, and development. Through the provision of technical assistance, UNODC promotes knowledge generation, fosters the adoption of best practices, provides advisory support in the design of policies and strategies across the region, and strengthens institutional capacities to address challenges related to illicit drugs, crime, and terrorism. The Organized Crime Analyst – Andean Region and Southern Cone shall report to the Head of the Organized Crime Area Organized Crime Area. Provide technical support and advisory services for the design, development, and analysis of characterizations, diagnostics, and studies related to organized crime at the local and regional levels. Design and implement quantitative and qualitative research methodologies for the development of characterizations, diagnostics, and studies on organized crime in border areas and its impact on the region. Design and develop technical tools aimed at strengthening institutional capacities for law enforcement, as well as for the identification of typologies and regional best practices to address organized crime. Provide advisory services for the design and formulation of public policies, plans, programs, and strategies to address organized crime in border areas. Prepare technical reports on the issue of organized crime in the region, considering the influence of transnational criminal groups and the impact of the convergence of associated illicit activities. Conduct studies and analyses to identify strategic lines of action to address transnational crime in border areas.

Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: • A Law degree is required • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION. • Be computer literate in standard software applications. • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
