Duties and Responsibilities
This position is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Tehran, within the Information Centres Service (ICS) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UNIC is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs), and UNIC Tehran is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Iran. It is responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by communicating the work of the UN to a local audience in local languages; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the peoples it serves. The internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months maximum, depending on the needs of the department and availability of the intern. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the general supervision of the Officer-in-Charge, UNIC Tehran. Responsibilities Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Assist with monitoring the media for news stories of interest to the UNO/UN; • Assist in performing research, drafting and/or updating content (on-line as well as off-line) for the public information outreach/advocacy, with guidance from UNIC Tehran staff members, subject matter experts, or relevant substantive focal points; • Assist in recording, editing and subtitling videos; • Assist with media outreach, e.g. distribution of press releases and other information materials to mass media and civil society organizations; • Assist in organizing activities for the planned as well as ad hoc UNO/UN events (round tables, conferences, Model UNs, etc.); • Assist with general support to overall public information activities, meetings, etc.); • Assist with news stories; • Performing other related duties, as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Applicants must also: -Be computer literate in standard software applications. -Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants are not required to have professional experience for participation in the programme. “No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English and Persian / Farsi is required for the internship.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
