IFPRI is seeking an individual consultant to develop operational guidance for integrating gender, climate change and nutrition in programming as well as a gendered climate metrics framework with application to Kenya for the Gender, Climate Change and Nutrition Integration Initiative (GCAN) project.
Background and scope of research:
The Gender, Climate Change, and Nutrition Integration Initiative (GCAN) is an IFPRI-led initiative that aims to support the integration of climate change, gender, and nutrition in policies, interventions and research. One of GCAN’s goals is to develop guidance on how to mainstream gender, climate change, and nutrition in policies and programs using the GCAN conceptual framework. GCAN is currently seeking a consultant to develop operational guidance for the GCAN Framework, drawing on existing materials.
As part of this effort GCAN is also developing gendered climate change metrics to help countries assess their climate resilience and adaptive capacity, as well as track and evaluate the effectiveness of climate change initiatives in agrifood systems. Despite previous attempts, there remains a gap in successfully implementing frameworks that incorporate gender considerations in adaptation efforts. The consultant will further develop gendered climate change metrics by piloting a draft tool in Kenya in collaboration with the IFPRI team and GCAN partner in Kenya.
Activities:
IFPRI is seeking a consultant to support these activities as part of the GCAN project. The consultant would engage in the following activities:
· Work with the IFPRI GCAN team to develop and finalize operational guidelines to support application of the GCAN Framework to support mainstreaming gender, climate change, and nutrition in policies and interventions.
· Pilot the gendered climate adaptation metrics in Kenya with the IFPRI GCAN team and local partner.
· Lead the development of a brief documenting the pilot experience and results.
Deliverables:
1) Develop operational guidance to apply the GCAN Framework including:
a. Text for online interactive tool
b. Guidance document (project note)
2) Work with IFPRI team and partner to plan and prepare to pilot the gendered adaptation metrics tool (identifying existing data, devising plan to seek stakeholder input
3) Participate in stakeholder validation, co-creation workshop
4) Develop brief based on the pilot experience and results
Duration and Location: The assignment is anticipated to require up to 50 days [from the date of the signed contract] and the consultant will work remotely. The consultancy will run until December 31, 2026.
