Context
IOM Cameroon is expanding its engagement on migration and health, including innovative sectors such as public health systems, and emergency health responses in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and partners. This strategic ambition aims to position the Mission as a key actor in these areas while aligning national efforts with IOM’s global frameworks and strengthening internal institutional awareness.
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM), the direct supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO) in Cameroon, the Migration Health Project Officer will be responsible for supporting the timely implementation of activities, and team supervision of IOM Cameroon’s public health department’s implementation team.
Education
Experience
Experience in migration and health within a government or UN agency, or a regional or international organization in West and Central Africa;
Operational and field experience in outbreak preparedness and response;
Experience on field epidemiology, and risk communication interventions;
Operational and field experience in programme development and implementation in migration, refugee, and displaced persons’ health-related issues;
Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, other national/international institutions, and Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs);
Proven experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning; and,
Experience in implementing projects.
Skills
Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation;
Knowledge of IOM/UN procedures;
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of relational databases, Microsoft applications, spreadsheets, word processing etc.;
Strong writing skills; and,
Familiarity with the health sector in the African region, with Cameroon experience an advantage.
Language
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.
For this position, fluency in English and French is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
