Duties and Responsibilities
The duration of the internship is for three (3) months with the possibility of extending up to a total of six (6) months. This internship is UNPAID in person or remote (home-base) and part-time (20 hours per week). UNOCT's Gender Unit of the Human Rights and Gender Section have recently launched the Gender Identity Factors Platform (GIFP) with the support of the Global Affairs Canada (GAC). Dedicated to the groundbreaking new field of gender and intersectionality within CT/PCVE, this digital platform encourages a greater focus on gender and other identity factors (e.g., age, race, socio-economic status, language, ethnicity, and religion) to support governmental and non-governmental actors in adopting gender responsive approaches to CT/PCVE efforts. To date, GIFP offers a growing repository of human rights-based resources on gender and intersectionality in CT/PCVE that are accessible to the general public. Within this context, the Gender Unit seeks to hire a maximum of two (2) Interns to support the project's work for a three-month period (01 June - 31 August 2026), either in-person in New York or remotely. The Intern will contribute to maintaining and developing the Platform, its resources, and community, while supporting broader project management tasks. Under the overall supervision of the Gender Unit’s Programme Management Officer (PMO), the Intern will: Resource Library Management: Research, identify, and upload new resources to the GIFP library; Develop concise analyses and summaries for each resource to support knowledge-sharing. Content Development: Draft and publish unique content for the GIFP, including blogs, newsletters, and platform updates. Web Analytics Monitoring: Track and report metrics such as page views, downloads, and user engagement to assess platform impact. Database Management: Maintain and enhance databases, including member information and resource inventories; Ensure data is accurate and up-to-date. Project Management Support: Assist in drafting reports, tracking finances, and monitoring project deliverables; Support the development of concept notes, agendas, and other materials for events and activities. Ad Hoc Tasks: Provide support for additional activities as they arise, contributing to the overall success of the GIFP.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed the final academic year of a first universit ydegree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Subject matter should be pertinent to gender studies, women’s studies, international relations, security studies, or related fields. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to draft high quality written materials is desirable. Ability to design surveys is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN Language is advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
