Description of the Assignment:
Under the supervision of the Programme Analyst and the overall guidance of the Head of the Natural Resources Management, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (NRM, CC and DRR) Unit, the Communications and Knowledge Management Consultant will undertake the following tasks:
1. Support the implementation of the Unit’s approved communications strategy and action plan by planning, drafting, and coordinating communication outputs aligned with agreed priorities, key messages, and target audiences.
2. Develop and package clear, high-quality communication products that translate technical programme work into accessible and policy-relevant content, ensuring consistency of messaging and alignment with UNDP corporate communications standards.
3. Document key programme activities, events, and results across the NRM, Climate Change and DRR portfolio, including preparation of summaries, briefs and narrative inputs for reporting and knowledge sharing purposes.
4. Support the systemic capture, organization and synthesis of lesson learned and good practices from programme implementation to strengthen institutional learning and inform policy dialogue, donor reporting, and future programme development.
5. Provide day-to-day communications and knowledge management support to unit team members and projects, including advisory support on content development, messaging coherence, and presentation of results across the portfolio.
Task 1: Produce strategic communication products package:
· Review and apply the unit’s approved communications strategy and action plan to assigned activities and priorities.
· Draft and edit clear, accurate, and policy-relevant communication content based on technical programme inputs.
· Work with programme teams to identify key results, stories, and messages suitable for communication.
· Ensure consistency of messaging, tone, and presentation across communication products.
· Apply UNDP corporate communications and branding standards to all outputs.
Deliverable: A consolidated package of finalized written communications products and campaign timeline (e.g. social media. Project brief, key messages, .etc.), submitted to and approved.
Task 2: Communication support to project campaigns
· Support the planning and implementation of project-level communication campaign under the approved communications strategy and action plan.
· Prepare campaign-specific communication content (Key messages, short narratives, briefing text, simple visuals if required).
· Coordinate with project and programme teams to ensure campaign reflects agreed objectives and target audiences.
· Document campaign outputs and results for internal reference.
Deliverable: Communication, Awareness, and Knowledge Management Plan for GEF-8 Critical Forest Biome Project
Task 3: Produce portfolio written pieces across the NRM, CC and DRR
· Identify priority stories across thematic areas of the unit’s portfolio
· Draft high-quality narrative written pieces not limited to blog, impact stories, op-ed, highlighting results, impact, or lessons learned.
· Revised stories based on feedback from the unit.
Deliverable: 3 finalized portfolio written pieces, each covering different thematic areas.
Task 4: Consolidated knowledge management output
· Review documentation, reports, and activity summaries across projects.
· Compile and synthesize lessons learned and good practices from programme implementation.
· Structure content in a clear, logical format suitable for internal learning and future programming.
· Validate synthesized content with programme teams.
Deliverable: 1 consolidated knowledge management document capturing lesson learnt, and good practices for unit communication, submitted and approved.
Period of assignment/services: 75 working days
